Well, after some time PAY-TV series continues. And this time in English! So let´s take a close look at Via Digital and TV Cabo.

VÍA DIGITAL is a Spanish digital pay-TV provider broadcasting from Hispasat at 30°W. Vía uses Nagravision as the encryption system. Nagra is not so frequent encryption in Europe as in the US.

TV CABO is a Portugese cable TV operator who broadcasts a selection of it´s channels from two Hispasat transponders. That´s why some channels (Telecine Classic, Sexy Hot and more...) are not available. Encrypted in Nagravision.

Many thematic channels are available to both Vía Digital and TV Cabo subscribers (with the option of language), that´s why I´ve decided not to separate this in two different articles.

Like Canal Satelite Digital´s m Mediaguard, Nagra is also hacked which makes it possible to watch it illegaly without a subscription (but keys change daily). If I say hacked, I mean that codes are public which we can´t say about Cryptoworks or Conax, for example. So why is it to hard to get VÍA or any other Nagravision provider? The answer is easy. To buy a Nagra CI and programm your FunCard with a Nagra software is simply not enough. You have to read more information out of the CAM, which cannot be done very easily (even those best of the best may have some problems with that...) or you have to get the original Vía Digital box.

Now let´s talk about the programming.

Vía offers three Gran Vía channels with programming similar to Canal+. But the films are not so new as on Canal+ or Tele+. Audio can be switched to the original language and video is 16:9.

Vía Digital has more movie cannels. Some of them are not so bad. With older films in original language and original screen format, Palomintas and Hollywood can be compared to Cinemanía.

TV Cabo´s Telecine Premium is a normal movie channel with actual movies. In Portugal they don´t dub (channels which originate from Latin America are dubbed - Discovery, National geographic or Playboy), so all films come with Portugese subtitles.

Like any other big pay-tv provider, Vía Digital includes pay-per-view. 16 Palco channels broadcast newest films 24 hours a day with the exception of weekends, when they´re showing football. Palco X and Palco XX show two porn films a day each. Palco X Gay is clear and Palco Eventos is ment to broadcast some bigger events like concerts (can be compared to Primafila Spettacoli)... All Palcos support original language and Spanish TXT subtitles. Palco shows almost the same films as Taquilla (right now it´s Pokémon 2 on six channels).

Now let´s move to thematic channels. A part of Vía Digital / TV Cabo take channels for girls. One of them is Cosmopolitan. But in it´s own way, Cosmo can also attract oposite sex... What channels can´t do that are Cocina, Natura or Telenovelas.

And if there are channels for girls, there also are channels for boys. I´m speaking about two all-action channels - Canal 18 and Showtime Extreme. Canal 18 broadcast old action movies and series like Walker Texas Ranger and during the night, it´s porn time. CSD´s Calle 13 and AXN are much better. Another guy-channel is well-known Playboy TV (available 24 hours a day) and Portugese porn channel Intimo (01:00-05:00).

Documentary. Every pay-tv has them - Discovery and National Geographic. There´s not much to say about it. If you like reality shows, TV Cabo offers 24h/day Big Brother on one channel. Tribunal Tv is also a kind of reality TV...
